The Surgical Technology Program prepares students for a vital role on the surgical team—supporting surgeons, nurses, and anesthesia professionals in the operating room. You’ll build a strong foundation in scientific principles, hands-on technique, and the professional ethics that define excellence in surgical care.
Program Description
Students gain a complete understanding of the operating room environment and the responsibilities of the Surgical Technologist (ST)—from maintaining a sterile field to anticipating the surgeon’s needs during critical procedures.
- Anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology relevant to surgery
- Instrument identification and proper handling techniques
- Principles of asepsis, sterilization, and infection control
- Preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative procedures
- Legal, ethical, and professional standards in patient care

Graduates are eligible to sit for national certification (e.g., Certified Surgical Technologist – CST). GMCTA supports readiness with practice exams, study guides, and competency checklists aligned to national standards.
