The Surgical Technology Program prepares students for a vital role on the surgical team—supporting surgeons, nurses, and anesthesia professionals in the operating room. You’ll build a strong foundation in scientific principles, hands-on technique, and the professional ethics that define excellence in surgical care.
Program Description
Students gain a complete understanding of the operating room environment and the responsibilities of the Surgical Technologist (ST)—from maintaining a sterile field to anticipating the surgeon’s needs during critical procedures.
- Anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology relevant to surgery
- Instrument identification and proper handling techniques
- Principles of asepsis, sterilization, and infection control
- Preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative procedures
- Legal, ethical, and professional standards in patient care

With experience, graduates can advance to Surgical First Assistant, Clinical Educator, or Operating Room Manager.

- Completion: Minimum 70% overall grade & satisfactory clinical skills
Content progresses from foundational sciences to specialty surgical areas and ethics, with integrated skills practice and assessment.
Certification Preparation
Graduates are eligible to sit for national certification (e.g., Certified Surgical Technologist – CST). GMCTA supports readiness with practice exams, study guides, and competency checklists aligned to national standards.
